SAFETY REMINDER

As a PTA we would like to remind parents to please be extra careful when driving near the school. We have had some near misses in the cross walk over the past few weeks.
Also please follow the proper procedures for picking up and dropping off your child at Discovery. These procedures are there to protect all the students from harm and accidents.
Pick Up & Drop Off Procedures
1) Load & unload students in the horse shoe only. Not in the Red Zone leading up to it.
2)Continue to pull all the way forward as space becomes available. This keeps the traffic flowing.
3) Do not stop in the Red Zone. This goes from the last parking spot on the street until 5 feet into the horse shoe.
4) Do not stop within 60’ of the crosswalk this is the law.
5) When the crossing guard is in the crosswalk with the stop sign you may not pull into the horseshoe until they have returned to the curb.
6)Do not call students to walk across the horse shoe to your car.

CROSSING GUARD TRAINING THIS THURSDAY

The Discovery PTA is trying to organize a Crossing Guard Volunteer Staff to make sure our students can safely cross 500 West, at the cross walk in front of the school.
Discovery currently averages 75 students crossing this street each afternoon. We expect this number to increase when the sidewalk is completed on 500 west up to 600 North, as many more students will begin crossing in front of the school instead of at the four way stop.
We currently have 11 parents signed up for crossing guard training. We need more parents to make the crossing guard run smoothly, and not over burden any one person. We are not asking that you come once a week, just once or twice a month.
Crossing Guard Duty is from 2:40 until 3:10 after school (1:15 – 1:45 on Wednesday). Our first training is September 10 at 9:45am at Discovery Elementary. We will also do an evening training if needed. The training takes only one hour.
You must be trained to cross students. Teachers in Box Elder School District are not allowed to be crossing guards due to liability issues, WE MUST HAVE PARENT VOLUNTEERS.
Discovery PTA cares about the Safety of our students but we must have your help. If you would like help please come to the training. Also if you need an evening training call the school and we will arrange one within the next two weeks.
Thank You!

Crossing Guard Training Sept 10

Come to crossing guard training. The training only takes 1 hour and then you can help keep our students safe. This is going to be extra important this year as they begin work on the new sidewalk down 500 West. Crossing Guard Duty is after school 2:40 - 3:10. We need as many as possible to sign up so no one has to do it every week all year.

Be on time. You must be present for the entire meeting to receive your training certification.
